FOG Kids Workshop – Bandarawela

A Day of Learning and Fun at Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centre – Bandarawela

On the picturesque day of January 27th, 2024, the Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centre in Bandarawela echoed with the laughter and excitement of young learners as they embarked on a captivating journey of exploration and discovery. The workshop, meticulously designed to blend education with entertainment, promised a day filled with engaging activities centred around the marvels of nature.

The morning commenced with an energetic Introduction Game, where children stood in a circle, eagerly sharing their names while joyfully jumping in and out—a delightful icebreaker that set the tone for a day of camaraderie and fun.

Next came the Number Worm activity, where children gathered in a circle, each holding a number paper. As they read their numbers aloud, they connected the papers, forming a colourful chain worm—a creative way to reinforce numerical concepts while fostering teamwork and collaboration.

Amidst the excitement, a well-deserved Snack Break awaited the children. Sitting in two lines, they shared food with friends, fostering a sense of community and togetherness—a heartwarming moment of bonding and friendship.

Rejuvenated and refuelled, the children gathered for a storytelling session, where they were transported to magical worlds and enchanting adventures through the power of narrative. As they listened intently or watched a captivating cartoon, their imaginations soared, igniting a love for storytelling and creative expression.

The highlight of the day was the Rain and Cloud activity, where children learned about the fascinating process of rain formation and its myriad benefits to the environment. With blue colour strips in hand, they eagerly approached the cloud image, each taking a turn to stick a strip—a collective effort symbolising the importance of water in sustaining life on Earth.

As they mimicked the sound of frogs and enacted the journey of raindrops, children gained a deeper understanding of nature’s cycles and the vital role water plays in nourishing plants, replenishing rivers and wells, cooling the earth, and cleansing the air—a powerful lesson in environmental stewardship and appreciation.

As the workshop drew to a close, the Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centre reverberated with echoes of laughter and learning, a testament to the transformative power of experiential education. Through hands-on activities and immersive experiences, children not only discovered the wonders of the natural world but also cultivated a deep sense of curiosity, empathy, and respect for the environment—a legacy that will endure long after the echoes fade away.
